Studio A114 wins Most Sustainable and Best Boutique Salon for Northern Ireland

In November 2022 Lynette flew to London for the Salon Awards as they had made it to the finals. Never did they think by entering the awards that they would go on to win! To enter the awards you had to apply and give a breakdown of your business, how you operate, what products you use, who you support locally etc. It was an intense application. Joe Mcgivern and Lynette Murray are now full partners in the studio. Joe joined in July 2020.

Lynette opened Studio A114 in 2017 in the aim of becoming a sustainable hair salon. Joe has accepted this challenge and together they are moving Salon A114 to new hair heights. She wanted to change the way you look at hairdressing, the way you feel when you enter into a salon. Studio A114 was created to be a safe place for everyone. A place where everything was thought about. Where the tea bags are from, how they could recycle everything and stop so much waste going to landfill. By joining the Green Salon Collective, Studio A114 was the first salon in Northern Ireland to sign up and one of the first in the whole of the UK. Being able to recycle the hair that is cut of your hair and know it is going to make hair booms that go into our oceans and help soak up oil spills and all the nasties was such a step forward for the hair industry. Having that story to tell was amazing. Knowing that my wee salon in East Belfast was actually making a difference to the environment and the world we live in humbles me everyday.

If I am totally honest, I don’t understand why all salons aren’t on board. As a salon owner it is my duty to do what I can to help against pollution, climate change, especially as the products I choose to purchase and use daily do actually make an impact on the environment.

Joe and Lynette are super proud of their studio and how they are changing the way you look at hairdressing.
