*sings* everyday we're juggling

Today is number…………..well, don’t even know anymore of self isolation. My heads pickled, like I’m sure it is for so many of you. Being self employed is amazing BUT when the unexpected happens, well, let’s just say this is hard. It’s been one crazy learning curve in the act of juggling life. Navigating home schooling, trying to keep my head above water paying bills and doing life that before, well, I just took for granted. NOT ANYMORE! If anything, this has taught me to be more appreciative of what I have. To thank God more for my blessings. To thank him for continuing to give me faith in all things. I am currently sitting with Florence having a break from learning about space and writing sentences. I am thankful for this time I have with her. I am thankful to have such amazing memories I can now hold dear. I am scared but I am not afraid. I am not afraid anymore. Going over everything in my head and just being thankful I can see, I can walk, I can talk ( although I know alot of you wish I didn’t, LOL ) If anything, COVID-19 has opened my eyes to the world of humanity. The help and support out there is overwhelming and I am so thankful for each and everyone of you. I am thankful for the NHS who look after Florence and the amazing team who support me whenever I need it, whenever her blood levels go crazy high or low, type1 diabetes is a head melt at the best of times, so having that 24/7 support line is EVERYTHING. (^T&&&&&&&t6 = I was going to take this out, but that was my cat BEA just walked across my laptop, lol ) YES, right now life is a little tough but I know it’s NOT FOREVER. I know this will pass and BY the grace of GOD me and my family will get through it.

Sorry for the wee rant this morning. I just wanted to let you all know I haven’t gone completely mad. I have always been a little crazy anyways, but you know, thats okay.

I hope you are all surviving the best you can in this crazy unknown world we have all been thrown into together. Remember to stay safe and stay grateful.

Much love to everyone and I cannot wait to get back to my studio and pamper you all, because you know you will have all cut your own fringes, dyed your roots too dark (oh I am scared for that!!!!!! ) If you can please do not dye your own hair. Think of the gorgeous condition your hair is in, don’t fuck that up!! Sorry mum for swearing ( love you ).

Until I see you all in person, I am sending out the biggest virtual hug EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Peace Out.

Lynette xx

Recycling hair I hear you say?

Adjustments.jpeg

I’m triple excited to be part of the Green Salon Creative’s vision and move my wee studio_a114 even further into being sustainable. From end of March this year which also marks me celebrating 3 years in business, I’ll be recycling all salon hair and here’s how! 🌱🤟

The following words are from the Green salon collectives website 🌱🤟 🌱🤟🌱🤟 🌱

How to recycle hair…

We all know that if hair is long enough we can donate it for wigs, but what about the 99.9% of hair that isn't long enough?

There are many ways to recycle hair including, hair booms, hair mats, gardening and composting.

Hair booms & mats?

We all know that hair absorbs oil, we’ve all had oily hair at some point. It was this simple idea that led to the concept of Hair booms & hair mats.

It was an American hairdresser back in 1989 named Phil McCroy who came up with the idea of using hair to stop the spread of oil in the sea.

Essentially, a hair boom is hair cuttings of any length or colour tightly packed into cotton or nylon tubes.

These booms, when placed in either water or on the shores of beaches will stop the oil from spreading, saving wildlife and the natural landscape.

We will also be getting the machinery to make hair mats. Hair mats can be used in a similar way to the booms, they can be used on land, parks, gardens and even your street or driveway. Hair mats can be used for oil or water and there have already been great results seen when used by plumbers, mechanics, and in local parks.

Who in the UK & Ireland are using hair booms?

That’s where we come in. Green Salon Collective will collect your hair (and most other waste) and after soon receiving maritime approval, we will be the first provider of hair booms & mats in the UK.

Hair for Gardening & Composting?

One of the first things we learn about hair is that it is a protein and like other proteins, it will breakdown when composted. So throwing away hair is like throwing away food! We will be giving hair that doesn't make it to a boom or a mat to many farmers and gardeners.

Fezza & Booms

Fezza can turn any length hair into hair mats! Check out this Boom too!

The following words are from @capitola website. 🌱

ABOUT US

Carlota and Sofía made a trip around the world. After visiting all the corners of the world, they discovered Capitola. The simplicity of this small coastal town located in the county of Santa Cruz in the US state of California made them fall in love and create Capitola. Capitola is inspired by the beauty and minimalism of the California coast.

OUR MISSION

Tired of the high prices of the market, we decided to create a brand with a direct business model, without intermediaries, that unites the consumer with the final product. Our watches are made of the best materials paying attention to all the little details.

OUR COMMITMENT

In Capitola, we conduct our business in a socially responsible manner. Our sustainability work is focused on the area of our business where we can have the biggest impact – our products.

RECYCLED STAINLESS STEEL

Nowadays, where environmental issues are so important in saving and preserving our world, stainless steel can emerge as an excellent recyclable material. That’s why we make sure all our watches are made of recycled stainless steel. This material contains valuable raw elements that are reused in the production process of our watches, reducing waste.

LEATHER COLLECTION

Did you know that every year, millions of animals are killed for the clothing industry? Leather is also responsible for all the environmental destruction caused by the meat industry as well as the pollution caused by its tanning. In Capitola, we are very concerned with this issue and that’s why all the straps from our leather collection are made of synthetic recycled leather.

If you built it, would they come?

When you have a dream to start your own business it always just feels like that, A DREAM. There’s that feeling of, there’s no way I could do that! Then you start to look around at what you are actually doing, what you are enabling to happen by not staying true to yourself. Not staying true to your own beliefs and ethics. Being scared to fail was crippling , is crippling. Being scared of what others would think was and is crippling. Both these factors are stupid but I still believed them. Why should it matter what other people think, why should it matter if I fail? Surely if I fail that should be okay! Surely it’s better to fail than to never try! Why not try? Why not see if it could work. Holy crap could it work, could it? OKAY LYNETTE, NOW YOU”RE JUST BEING CRAZY! Who would want to come to your studio? who? ( my inner voice always being a torture ) who would care as much as you did about where their hair colour came from, wether their shampoo was cruelty free or sulphate free?. Surely everybody just wants 2 for 1 these days. Surely everyone wants the cheapest option. Don’t they? Then a wee memory voice pops into my head. It says, Lynette, do you remember that film, A Field of Dreams? The one with Kevin Costner? The one you loved way back then. What was the famous line from that movie?

“IF YOU BUILD IT, THEY WILL COME”

So, I put my big girl pants on and I did it! I built it and what the actual F, ( sorry mum ) you came! You actually believed in what I was trying to build. I can’t even put into words how overwhelmed I am. The support from my family and friends has blown me away. The support from my clients who stuck by me from day 1, back when I was a nervous little junior in Patrick Mulholland’s just wanting to be the best hairdresser I could be, to the lovely new clients who have lovingly put their trust in me to cut and colour their hair. I THANK YOU!!!! 2 and a half years into my vision, my dream, it’s no longer a dream! It’s my reality and everyday I thank God for my blessings!

THANK YOU!

Love Lynette xx
